What was the water color? What type of bottom was it? How heavy of a weight do you use fishing that deep? What is the water temp right now?
What is your favortie line for drop shotting?

5ft visibility. Rock bottom with scattered chunch rock. I use a 1/4 oz bell weight. I use a drop shot a lot when the water dips below 50 dgrees. Temps that day were 44 degrees air and water. I like a senko or trick worm type bait. I will usually use a dark color like purple or blue.

That's really good info. Do you tend to fish close to the dam in the winter?

It really depends on the day and weather. If the weather has been below 50 degrees and stable I will head toward the damn for the clear water and water temps in the mid 40's. I can work 2 techniques during this time with confidence. Float N Fly and drop shot. If the weather warms up to mid 50's for a few days I will head toward the river and fish clay chunk rock banks as they tend to heat up in the evenings to around 48 to 50 degree water and you can catch them with suspending jerkbaits or one of my favorites is a bandit 200 in a spring crawl color.

Fished in a small tournament on Percy Priest January 21. Placed in 2nd. We caught several fish on jig worms, spider gubs, jig/pig combo and jerkbaits. However keeper fish were hard to come by. Water temps were 49 at the start of the day and ended at 45 by 3pm. Water was muddy in the river and stained on the main lake. The wind ranged from 15 to 20mph with a little rain, air temps started out at 58 degrees and took a huge drop, by 3pm it was only 39 degrees. The largemouth were caught 6ft or less on jigs and jerkbaits while the KY Spots were caught 15ft off main channel ledges and bluff walls. One big fat Largemouth was weighed in at 5lbs, looked to have a full belly. One thing I noticed was some of the KY Spots had crawfish tenticles sticking out of their thoats.

Nice observation on the crayfish appendages in the Bass's gullet. I think it would be great if you gave this tournament summary its own post, I almost did not notice it buried in the comments of this old post...
