I fished Saturday morning with my wife, Blanca to pre-fish for my upcoming BASS Series tournament.  We put in at Davis corner boat ramp on Old Hickory Lake in Tennessee.  The day started with heavy cloud cover and a light breeze.  I started out up river and fished some grass on a channel bend.  Some of the grass was matted and some was just below the surface.  I tied on a frog and ran it over the mats.  I got a few blow ups but no hook ups.   I went in behind the mats to the back of the creek to fish the edges of a ditch that ran behind the mats.  The clouds burned off and out came the sun.  I finally managed to hook up on a nice 3lber on a frog worked along a log. When I prefish I tend to jump around and not really look for a pattern this early during prefishing.  I will set my pattern a few days before the tournament.  I just want to learn some new waters and look for big fish spots.  I found a few fish shallow so I wanted to run out to some deep stuff to see what I could find.  I fished a ledge that was about 10ft that drop to 16ft and then to 40ft of water.   I usually fish a jig or worm on this type of structure.   I ran a DD22 down the ledge with no action.  I then tied on a SweetBeaver on a football jig head and quickly caught a 2lb fish. I then decided to run up another creek to check out a few grass beds and some docks.  I fished string of docks pretty thoroughly with no action.  I backed out the the edge of the creek channel and fished the bends of the creek. I caught a couple fish that barely measured.  Both fish came off a jig/pig combo. My 4 best fish came in around 8-9 pounds. Not exactly what I need to win a tournament but a good start to prefish.
