Old Hickory

I had a Federation club tournament, F-3, on Old Hickory 9/30/06. I knew it would be a tough bite considering the O.H. is tough in the fall and a BFL Super tournament was going on. This lake has been getting pounded lately.
I started on with my partner having to cancel so I was fishing alone, which is not really a big deal. I decided to fish nearly all new waters to help pre-fish for the TBF state federation tournament on the 13th and 14th of October. I started out in a small cove just up from Shutes branch. I started on the outside and worked my way in. On about my 5th cast with a shallow crank I caught a short fish. I seen a ton of bait fish busting on the surface so I tried my swim bait that i have good luck using and had a hard strike at the boat but could not catch up to it for a good hook set. Moving on down the bank I missed a very nice bass on a crank. The fish were hitting rather soft and short. The fish pulled off at the boat. I caught several short fish in the cove. As the front moved thru and the sun came out I ran to a small rock pile out on the main river. I caught 2 bass about 2.5lbs each. Both fish hit soft and I just felt the slightest tap. I went to some docks with a jig and had some short fish and lost one keeper because I did not re-tie. Never learn my lesson on re-tying! All in all I caught probably 15 fish including a few smallies and only 2 measure. I won 1st place and AOY in the club. This is my 2nd AOY and consecututive titles.
The BFL guys did not have it much easier. 17lbs for 2 days won it and most of those fish were caught on day 1. From what I read day 2 was extreemly tough. I also seen that the BLF Chevy tournament is on OH in October. This will be a very tough tournament for those guys.
I hope to post some pre-fish reports next weekend on O.H. So stay tuned for a busy October and November.
