Pre-Fishing for Old Hickory TBF State

I fished Old Hickory, TN this past Saturday and Sunday.  I am doing a little pre-fishing for the upcoming TBF State tournament the 13th and 14th.   I had mixed results for the weekend and actually made my decision of where to go a little tougher.  I started Saturday fishing all my stuff up lake in a few creeks.  I found some fish on a Secret Weapon Lures Buzz bait but it was tough to find size.  My partner Torrence also caught fish on a small crankbait but again it was tough to find size.  I broke off on a very good fish under a dock. I tried to pull on it but she just bit too hard. I tried to fish some of my deep stuff up lake but the wind made it kinda tuff to hold a spot and fish it slow.  Sunday I mixed it up a lot, fishing up lake and mid-lake.  I had noticed on sunday the lake was down about 2ft.  Not hardly a breeze in site and bright blue skies.  I was expecting a tough tough day like Saturday.  I caught probably 20+ fish and many of them were Smallies.  I was shocked to say the least.  I caught fish on jigs, worms, SWL Spinner baits and cranks.  So what is the pattern?   Next week is gonna be tough I think.   Wednesday and Thursday is a major front coming thru with rain predicted and Friday is supposed to be blue bird sky and 57 degrees.  That makes for some tough conditions.  We will see how it goes.

What's the bite? I think it largely depends on weather, water temp and if there is any current. I think you need to have a gameplan to start with and be ready to adapt based on what the fish are telling you. If they start to move water, you probably need to get out on those areas you banged the smallies on, if not prepare to hunker down for a few good bites

      Jason,
I tend to only use a few colors of jigs. I really like the Black, Watermelon and for very clear water pumpkin. I like the 3/16 oz and the 1/4 oz bitsy flip. I am getting ready to experiment with a new jig from www.surethinglures.com called a Snootie jig. I think it is similar to the Bitsy Bug. A friend of mine Bobby Scharber hand makes them. He fishes the Southern Tour. Most of the trialers I use for the jigs are zoom small chunk junior or the Paca Craw jr. I typically match the trailor color to the jig color. My favorite set up is 1/4 oz Bitsy Flip black with a black trailor.

      Thanks

Thats cool,I have had good luck on a 1/4 oz. jig referred to as the peanut head, a friend hand makes them also,I have had luck earlier this season and last fall/winter on brown peanut paired with a homemade mini trailer in avacado colorw/chartruese tips. I make the trailers myself and they work good for me best of luck in eufala
