ESPN/BASS and ABA

ESPN/BASS gave licensing rights to ABA for their weekend series, ya I just heard about it on
www.bassfan.com.
www.americanbassanglers.comI really don't know how to feel about this right now. There are still so many unanswered questions. I had planned on in the next month or so putting together a schedule for next year. Originally I had planned on fishing BASS Vols division as a boater, and ABA Invitational Series as a Boater(most tourn. are on my home waters.) Now I am very unsure of which series I will fish. I was totally against FLW/BFL due to my stance on Wal-Mart, by the way for those that don't know, I can't stand Wal-Mart for various reasons but now I will actually look at BFL as a boater. Why did ESPN/BASS make the switch? Cost cutting I am sure but I think it goes much deeper then cutting costs. I really do not think we will know the whole truth for quite some time.
I have gotten a lot of emails this morning questioning the ABA and their ability to run a larger scale tournament. I don't really know either, but I do know a few guys in the organization. John Glenn is a pretty good guy and will do a fine job with the ABA. I also know a few of the tournament directors and they all do a good job. However, running a 20 boat tournament is a whole lot easier then running a 100+ boat tournament. What is going to be the entry fee? Pay-out? Sponsors? Schedule? So many questions still unanswered.
I really think BASS has not done themselves any good in this endeavor and a few past endeavors. I think they did not handle the Federation very well and thus lost it to FLW and now the weekend series. What are they thinking? I think there were some egos in the way. Early opinions I am getting from some friends is BASS just lost some die hard BASS guys to the FLW/BFL and I may be one of them. I know it is a business and in the end it is all about the money and how much of it can you make. The goal of any business is to make money. I really think BASS should have given it more time then 2 yrs. I really don't know too many businesses that are profitable in their 1st year or two of operation. OK I am done venting now.
I will wait until the ABA releases the schedules and more details before I decide which series to fish. Until then I will try to keep an open mind about everything. I hope to have my schedule for 2007 complete by the end of Nov. or 1st week of December.
Tight Lines,
Billy
