This entry was posted on 1/15/2007 11:49 AM and is filed under January Fishing Reports.

I got up Sunday around 6:30 a.m. and feeling a bit better from the flu, I decided to head out to Priest for a few hours.  I launched at the West Fork boat ramp and fished that area.

Water Color - 1ft vis. but clearing.
Water Temp: 51 to 57 degrees
Current: good current - a little more then I like.
Cloud cover with intermittent rain.
Air Temp 60+ degrees. with 10-15 mph winds.

I started out at a favorite river bend.  I first pitched a 3/16 oz Snootie jig in Camo - with black zoom chunk jr. and no takers.  The current was moving the jig too fast I believe and it was not getting down and staying where I needed it to.  With the water temps around 55 degrees I tied on a rattle trap in spring crawl.  3rd cast I caught a nice 13" ky spot.  I caught 3 more bass with 1 being a 15" lm before loosing it to a rock. I changed to a Bandit
200 in a dark craw fish pattern and had no takers.  I was fishing past the 840 bridge in the east fork and noticed to crayfish swimming at the surface. They were very light in color with dark spots on it.  I looked in the box and found a Bandit in a lighter crawfish pattern.  I caught 3 more bass but were an inch or so short of 15". I had a few bites but they came loose.
With the water warmer and  a bit clearer I went back into the west fork.  The sun was out so I started pitching my jig at chunk rock and stumps.  I switched to a heavier jig, 3/8 oz in the same camo but changed my chunk to a YUM crawfish in a light green with orange claws.  I caught 2 more bass and both of them kept. The biggest one pictured was 18" long. 3 to 4 lbs I would guess.  I found both of them out on the drop at the channel ledge.
I would guess my 4 keepers would have gone around 8 or 9 pounds.

This is a pic from my cell phone.  I don't have my regular digital camera. It is in Houston, long story.

I typically use only 2 colors for my trailers. I use black for overcast days or dingy water and I use watermelon pepper for clear water or clear days. I use both the trailers on my Snootie jigs by www.surethinglures.com. I use watermelon 4" slider worms and Reaction Innovations Flirt worm in green pumpkin and their DS Creature for my drop shots.
