Hey folks, I have had one rough week and thought I would take it out on some Amistad Bass. I got in Thursday around 3 pm and staying with friends of my from Minnesota, Wayne and Joan Lindgren. Wayne and I immediately headed to the lake. It is cold and windy here. 48 for a high and 15mph winds. This lake is nearly like nothing I have ever fished, amazing! Clear water much like Dale Hallow and humps, ditches and points everywhere and grass beds in 25 foot of water. The 1st day I zeroed but did have 3 fish on but did not get a good hook set. Day 2 was a little better, I had 2 clone 3lb bass that came off a grass bed on the Mexican side in 25ft of water. I was kinda surprised at how deep these fish still on in 55 degree water. I guess it is due to the clear water. I had my chance at a major toad today. I was fishing a ditch in 20ft and had a nice tap and started to real down to set the hook and away she went, I was using 65lb braid on a carolina rig and a 20lb cajun red leader. I thought I would be fine to lay the wood on the Loomis I was using and tryed to turn her and she just kept going and broke my leader. I could feel this fish 20ft down shaking her head, it was like nothing I had ever felt before. I wont make a mistake the 2nd time. Amistad Bass 1 Billy 0. I wont mentioned what we was catching them on because we have a small wager with a few people down here. However none of them know what a Double Wide beaver is or what it looks like.
