J. Percy Priest - Bass and Crappie

I had the whole weekend free to do nothing but fish. The weather was great - mid to upper 70's. Saturday had very little wind and high clear skies but Sunday was calm early and fairly windy in the after noon.
Saturday Rob Kennedy and I fished the Murfreesboro Open tournament our of Fate Sanders. We had around 40 boats which included the Vanderbilt Team. Most of the local hitters from the area were fishing the tournament.
Rob and I started out up lake fishing a little creek but caught nothing by white bass and hybrids. Bait fish was packed in there but no large heads to be found. He shot up to 4-corners area to fish a few of our favorite points and ledges. Rob caught a keeper 15" bass on a c-rig lizard. Then the KY Spots moved in and we whacked them, however the biggest one was only 14.5" which are some nice spots for Priest but not good enough for this tournament. We moved out to fish some flats with deep water very close. I got the next fish off a brush pile using a 3/16 oz Bitsy Bug. We moved up lake to some points adjacent to a spawning cove and we each caught 1 more keeper, I think both came off a jig. I knew the better fish were there but just missing them a bit. We weighed in 4 bass for 8.5 lbs, not enough for a check. 16lbs won and it took 14lbs to get a check. There were several nice smallies that were weighed in as well.
Sunday I spent the 1st three hours of the morning searching for new brush piles, ledges and points to fish this summer. I found several promising areas. I only caught 3 dinks in 3 hours on a
Secret Weapon Spinnerbait in white/chartreuse, so I decided to take a break and go crappie fishing. I fished for another 3 hours for crappie and did not even get a bite. So I gave away my 3 dozen minnows and headed back to bass fishing. It was slow until about 2 pm and then I figured them out. In the next 2 hours I had 2 limits of bass and caught 29 total. I was going from point to point and had to go past a bluff and noticed tons of shad just piled up on the edge of big big chunk rock. I changed my jig to a
Snootie jig in watermelon. The Snootie has a bit bigger body then the Bitsy Bug. The key was the end of bluffs in about 10 to 12 ft of water and you had to fish the jig extremely slow. They just wanted it dragged on the bottom. The bite was very soft and tough to detect. My 1st school of fish I caught 5 keepers, biggest was 4.11lbs. I had around 15lbs for my best 5 fish on the day.
I have a F-3 club tournament on Priest next Saturday so we will see if that pattern holds.
Sorry guys, I did not give much of a crappie report, I just could not catch any.
