Hey all I finally have some pics of my new ride. Ya I sold my Stratos to Ron Taylor and got into a Bee-Line by Phoenix Boats. www.phoenixbassboats.com - So far I love the ride and boat. I am less then happy with the Mercury Pro-XS 250hp but still have high hopes for it after the break in period. Seems that due to double oiling during the break in period is fouling out my plugs and sometimes missing trying to get out of the hole. But top end she is running around 74-75 mph. 72 with 2 peeps and full tournament load.

The color is Midnight Blue and Sand.

The boat itself is great. The ride is smooth and comfortable. Handles pretty good in rough water and fishes very well out of rough water. The storage is unbelievable - tons of it. I put in all my stuff and had tons of storage left over. I thought I had lost some tacke there was so much open space.

Probably the most asked question is why Phoenix - Beeline. I chose them after getting an invite and personal tour of Phoenix boats by President Gary Clouse. He is committed to customer service and producting a quality boat at a competitive price. Also was the marine dealership. I ran the boat through Gilliams Marine in Tullahoma, TN. Sarah, Darryl and staff has been great helping me out with my boat and working through the break in period. I can call them any time and they will work with you on the dead line you need. They are committed to excellence through customer service. My last purchase of a Stratos left a bad taste in my mouth from the dealership via customer service so that was extreemly important to me on this purchase.

I believe this is going to be the start of a long and great relationship with Phoenix Bass Boats and Gilliams Marine.
Who knows if things go right I will be in a new branded Phoenix Bass Boat. Keep you eyes open for updated news and pics of the Phoenix!

If you are in the market for a new boat give Gilliams Marine a call, ask for Sarah 931-461-3230 or go to www.phoenixbassboats.com

Tight Lines,
Billy

Well I have had a few days to rest my hands and wrists after fishing in the Bassmaster Blue Grass Brawl on Kentucky Lake. The Brawl Details

I was really pumped up on Wednesday driving up to Murry KY and the Kentucky Dam Village to register. Rob Kennedy and I go there around 3pm and milled about outside until registration. We seen all the angler there, KVD - Skeet and Ish just to name a few. Registration went well and we had the safety and pairing meeting on Wednesday. As we all know much of this co-angler is all about the draw. Lets say Rob was not very happy with any of his draws. I was pretty happy for all three days.

Day 1 - Mark Davis - Crankbait King
Mark and I took off in boat 95 and 8:30 - due back in at 6:20. Mark said we planned on heading to Barkley and fishing some main lake ledges. We stopped not far from the dam on a ledge. No sooner then I got my life jacket off he had fish on, a nice 3lb bass on a Big-O - nice old school stuff huh. I got the fish in for him and stepped to the back just to hear fish on. To say the least 15 minutes later I am standing there very humbled and amazed by his 5-fish limit. I am standing on the back deck a little shaken and nervous as what to do now. Mark took noticed and really calmed me down and got me focused again. I was throwing a DT-10 and finally got a hook up on a nice looking 4'sh bass and just my luck she came loose at the boat. 2 hrs later I finally hook up on a solid 3lb bass on a C-Rig and dang the luck she comes un-buttoned also. I was pretty aggravated at this point. I stopped and went to a shaky head and on my 3rd cast landed my 1st keeper a nice 3lb fish. A few minutes later I hit another one. With an hour to go I landed my last keeper on my shaky head. My 3 fish was good enough for 8+lbs and 59th place. Those two lost fish would come back to haunt me later as it cost me 1st place.

Day 2 - Brian Snowden - Missouri Pro
We drew boat 12 and got to head out pretty early, 8:10am which was pretty nice. The wind was way up about 15-20 and on this lake you will have 4 foot or better rollers. It was a rough ride to our 1st spot. Brian and I hit ledges all day long, just the way I like it. Brian started off with a 3/4 oz football jig and I started with a 10" Plum Apple Exodus worm. Within 45 minutes we both had a limit and was still catching fish. Brian was smokin me with his jig on the size of his fish. From day 1 I guessed I needed 12lbs to make the cut and I had about 10. I knew I needed some bigger fish so I switched to a bigger worm, a 11" Exodus Paddle Tail worm, this thing was huge. However that worm was the key to making the cut and placing 10th over-all. Not only did I cull out all 5 keepers but caught solid 3lb bass all day long on several different ledges. It was absolutely a blast fishing with Brian. He is a class act guy. Brian ended the day with a little over 14lbs and I had a little over 15lbs and good enough to move me from 59th to 18th. I made my goal of making the cut, and now I wanted a top 10. I thought I needed 14lbs to make a top 10 and with a big bite, who knows!

Day 3 - Byron Velvick - Floppy's Cousin - LOL!
Byron and I drew boat 18 or so and again we were heading to ledges. However as Byron and I got to our 1st spot a local fishing a BFL was right on the honey hole. We fished it the best we could for about 4 hrs. Byron lost a toad, well over 5lbs on a swimbait and caught a few small keepers. I caught my 1st 3lb'er on a shaky head. Byron and I let the local dude have the spot as we planned to come back around 2 when he had his weighin. We hit some humps and other ledges down by the dam but it was pretty slow. He finally caught his limit but they were pretty small 15" bass. 2pm we head back to his main hole. We fished it for over 1 hour without a single bite and then about 3:30 - 4pm the dinner was served. Bryron started whacking some solid 2-3's on a deep running crank, could not catch what it was, maybe a Bandit 700? I tried everything, DT-16 - SWL Spinnerbait - jigs, c-rigs and nothing. I finally said the heck with it and went back to my Exodus worm. Once we found the main school we started to limit out and cull. I final caught my limit and was able to cull out my small ones. I was guessing I had 14lbs. 45 mins to go we decided to head to another hump near weighin. Byron took up his marker buoy and tossed it to the back, it bounced off the seat and hit his ignition switch and broke it. The boat would not start. We both freaked out for a few minutes. I buttoned things down while he worked on the ignition. After taking the panel off and working a pair of pliers we got it started and back to the weighin. Byron was a great guy to fish with and just kept pounding it no matter how slow it was. When it was slow he was free with information and answering my questions about fishing. I was pretty relaxed fishing behind Byron, humor goes a long way!

I weighed in with a little over 14lbs and enough for 10th place. I don't think that was too bad for my 1st event of this magnitude.

From the pic you can tell I really had to use my JKRUZ sunglasses. I look like a raccoon!

6.95 LB SMALLMOUTH - NEW OLD HICKORY LAKE RECORD!

Wow what a heart pumping night. Denny Krogh and myself fish a Thursday night tournament series on Old Hickory sponsored by Michael of www.midtnmarine.com . Going in the weather had stabilized some and water was starting to clear. I had a plan for the night and felt very good about it going in. I thought with the temps of the main lake still at 58 and pockets at 60 the fish should be moving along a little ditch I knew about to a flat in the back of Shutes Branch. I told Denny just before take off to hang on because I feel good about tonight.
Water was a bit stained about 2ft, wind calm, clear full moon lite night.
We started off on the shallow flat throwing some rattle traps with nothing happening. I finally caught a couple fat dinks on a jig off rip rap. We moved on down the bank with little action as we fished the deeper portion of a ditch. We got up to the next flat and I caught a few more dinks on a black jig. Denny tied on a Spring Craw Bandit 200 and began catching 6 or 7 13.5" bass, good fish but not keepers. 7:45 the sun had gone down and I switch back to my jig and caught a nice 2.5lb'er. We caught several more fish that were short, about 30+ short bass. With 45 minutes to go I said lets run out to this main lake point just to check things out. We pulled in and Denny said " Billy lets just catch a couple 5lb'er and be done with it. But can you let me catch one of them". It was kinda funny looking back on it. We were fishing a little rock point and about my 5th cast and with my jig almost back to the boat I felt a slight tick on my jig. I reeled down and set the hook on my toad! The fight was on, the smallie came straight up out of the water to me what looked like 3ft and tail walked the whole time. It was breath taking. I was scream at Denny to get the net the whole time. We finally got her in, and Denny guessed her at 6.5 lbs and I thought she was smaller then that. Nervous and shaking we continued to fish. I told Denny it was not his turn. It wasn't a few minutes later he is yelling get the net. His largemouth came in at about 4 to 4.5 lbs. A very nice fish indeed and again the jig was the ticket.
Back at the weigh-in I seen a lot of fishing being weighed in and a lot of 4-6lb largemouth. I though we might have had a top 5 and didn't think I had a chance at big fish. We weighed in for 2nd Place at 13.6 lbs and I got big fish at 6.95 lbs. Then the guys brought up that it might be a new lake record. So scrambling around to find out last night we still did not know. I called the TWRA for information and indeed I broke the old record of 6.11 lbs in 2003. I am filling out the paperwork to have it certified and my name is heading to the record books!
For those that don't know I threw back a 8.5 lbs smallie state record in Minnesota in 1998 and missed out on the once in a lifetime chance at a state record. Well this might not be a state record but just the same my name is going in a record book. How many people can say that!
Special thanks to one of my sponsors Michael of www.midtnmarine.com for bringing me that bait before the tournament. Without that jig who knows!

Billy

Robbie and Bill are a couple fine young men and quite the anglers. We met out at Fate Sanders about 1:30 and they were eager and ready to go despite the windy and colder then desired weather. The temps never got above 55 or so and I think they actually dropped throughout the day. Whenever you do a trip with kids you always worry about how much they know such as casting skills and fish catching ability. There was nothing to worry about with these two a they were obviously well trained by their dad, Bob.

We stared out in the cove behind Fate Sanders as I had been catching some crappie a few days earlier. We pulled into the 1st spot and quickly caught a small bluegill on a minnow. We got to watching and bass were running/schooling baitfish along the bank. So we edge on in and tried our luck. Robbie and Bill caught a largemouth bass, a KY Spotted bass and a decent little crappie out of the hole.

We finished up there with a few bass and headed down lake to try out luck out on some more bass. We headed to Four Corners were I had just fished that morning and caught a boat load of bass which included 14 keepers.
We pulled into the 1st point and quickly caught a nice bass on a crankbait. We caught a few more bass throughout the day. As the day progressed the temps continued to drop but the boys stayed right with it and never gave up, they went Iconelli on me! We wound up catching a multitude of fish. They caught, Largemouth, Ky Spots, 2 good size bluegills, crappie, yellow bass, and even a big ol catfish. I think they could fish any kinda of fishing tournament they wanted to and do well. We even had the perverbial big one get away. We were around Long Hunter ramp and Robbie had a big bite. He fought it well but it just was not meant to be. I am not sure what it was but they way it fought I think it was a Hybrid or Striper. Either way it was something big.

Thumbs up to a couple good young fishermen and I am officially warning KVD, you better watch your back with these two!

Billy Harris
www.billyharrisbasspro.com

The new year has come for the 2008 Bassmaster Weekend Series operated by ABA. This years 1st tournament for the TN Central Division was on J. Percy Priest, February 16th out of Fate Sanders Marina. I had very high hopes for this tournament and this year as one of my goals was to take down Adam Wagner as the divisions champion for the 3rd year in a row. Plus this is my home waters and had been on a good deep water bite with a 3/8 oz Tight Lines football jig and my usual Bitsy Bug. During pre-fish on Thursday I had a 4 and a couple 3's coming out of 25 ft of water and on Friday I had another 4 and 3 but both came less then 5ft of water. It was during the evening hours after the water had warmed to 51 degrees in the shallows.
Conditions:
Cloudy
variable winds
1ft water visibility and depends on what part of lake you are fishing.
water temps had fallen to 46 to 48 degrees.

I had a plan of fishing deep from the start near Jones Mill area on some ledges that have brush piles and then work my way up lake hitting bluffs and ledges with wood. I got boat 38 out of 46 and headed out. I got to my 1st spot with no one on it and began with my jig. I fished it solid for a couple hours with jigs, cranks, SWL's and a drop shot. NOTHING, little did I know this was my fortune for the rest of the day.
I went from spot to spot, running and gunning. I ran a whole tank of gas and for those that know me, I rarely run over 1/2 tank and tend to stay close to where I start. I ran all over the lake like I had never run. I went from Jones Mill area to Elm Hill, to the dam to suggs creek then to Hole in the wall, then to 4-corners, then to Long Hunter points, then back to Jones Mill, then ran way up river to Spring Creek, then to the east and west fork of Stones river and came all the way back to Jones Mill. I would hate to say how many miles I put on that boat.
All for 2 bites and 1 little dink. First 6 hrs of the tournament I fished slow with jigs and cranks. The last two hours I fished shallow with cranks, shad raps, traps, speed traps, spinnerbaits, bandits you name it I threw it and nothing going. Yes you are getting the picture, I ZEROED, THE BIG GOOSE EGG - NADA, NOTHING, ZILTZ, how many ways can I say I did not weigh a single fish. I was pretty ticked about it too. I have yet to have a zero in a Weekend Series tournament. No spin, no excuses, no nothing, I just flat out failed to adjust and catch fish.
I can honestly say I am not even sure what I did wrong. I hear the tournament was won by shallow fish in less then 4ft of water on cranks down lake. I don't quite get it, lake temps 46-48 degrees and clearer water down lake past Hobson Pike bridge. Why in the world were those bass in shallow water with such cold temps? I was always taught don't go shallow until the water hits 50 degrees. I guess the fish forgot to read the books about what they are supposed to do.
I learned my lesson and will move on. No matter what I will always check the shallows!

Well it is on to Center Hill on March 8th. I am looking forward to this tournament as I have always done well on Center Hill, just missing a win last year. I will be heading out this coming Sunday to start scouting around and fish a little bit. Bet your sweet booty I will be checking some shallow water too!

Billy Harris
www.billyharrisbasspro.com

Well guys and gals it has been a long time since my last blog. I will try to catch up on the Bassmaster Weekend Series at Clarks Hill in Georgia operated by the American Bass Anglers. To help move things along and keep a relatively short blog I will run through the practice days and tournament days fairly quick. I finished 85th out of over 200 qualifying anglers throughout the country. Many of these guys are very talented and have even fished in the Bassmaster Classic. I was disappointed in my finish but I did take a few good things away and will apply them to 2008 as I make another run at the Classic.

I stayed at Wildwood Park with some close friends of mine from Minnesota. Wayne, Joan and Rich Lindgren are long time friends from MN. We stayed in comfort of a very nice 5th wheel RV. I had a awesome leather recliner to sleep in and had a fantastic cook, Joan to keep us fed.

Going into practice I figured it to a be a run and gun style tournament. I figured to fish fast and cover a lot of water. Instincts sometimes I forget to listen to them.

Day 1 Practice:
I launched at daylight and headed out. Due to my previous practice in September I wanted to check some spots I had found. I 1st headed up the Little Savannah to a creek arm that I had located some brush piles. Unfortunately the brush biles were now out of the water. So I headed to 4 or 5 other areas I had previously fished. The areas were creek channel bends with brush piles in 15ft of water. Now the piles were in 5-8ft of water. But no big deal fish were still holding on them. In a mater of a few hours I had a solid limit of 8lbs, all on a jig. I thought I had something going.

Day 2 Practice:
I headed out and decided to head up the LIttle Savannah as far as I could stand to drive. I past several bridges and found a ton of wood and chunk rock in the water. I immediately thought this is my kind of water, jig water. No such luck. I then changed tactics and started chunking Rattle Traps in Chrome/Blue and white blue Secret Weapon Spinnerbaits. The Secret Weapon Spinnerbait will come back to haunt me as Rich can attest. I had another nice limit on the Rattle Trap. Most of the bites were on main lake points up the river.

Day 3 Practice:
I decided to head up the Savannah about 25 miles or so. I just wanted to run all new water and try to find a slow and more solid jig bite. By mid day I had nothing on a jig an went back to the run and gun with my Rattle Trap. I put together another solid string of about 6lbs. Again most bites were on main lake points. But the bite was slowing to only 5 or 6 bites a day for me.

Strategy:
I figured I would start with some early top water as I had some solid fish on a Sebile Magic Swimmer. I then would hit my points and brush piles with a Rattle Trap and Spinnerbait. Once I found the fish I would slow down and pick it apart with my jig. I thought I could get a small limit per day and hope for a kicker along the way with a jig.

Day 1:
I went to my most productive spot and pounded it with a jig and nothing. It was cloudy early and thought if I would wait till the sun came out the bass would move into my brush piles. No such luck. Mistake 1 - waiting too long for the fish to move in. After about 4 hrs and fishing way too slow I decided to move on. I started hoping points. I finally caught a keeper on a chrome/blue rattle trap. I then slowed down with a jig but no takers. I finally had 3 fish to weigh in for little over 3lbs. I was saving my big fish spot for later that afternoon and that is were mistake #2 happened. I saw my toad under a dock were I had seen her the past few days. There she was just laying next to a float. I bet I pitched at her 20 times with various lures and nothing, no movement no nothing. I finally pitch in a albino fluke and let it just sink. She did not move. So I reached in the cooler for a drink and looked up and she was gone. Thinking I scared her off I just started reeling the slack on my spinning rod. That is when all heck broke loose. She pounded the fluke and I did not have time to react with a good hook set. She rolled up from underneath the dock and came unbuttoned. Guessing 5+ pounds at least. Not happy. That fish cost me a top 50 and a paycheck. But at least I was leading Rich in the Bet, will explain later. 120th on day 1.

Day 2:
Day 2 provided 30+ MPH wind. I headed back to my favorite spot to check my brush piles. NOTHING going. I think my fish just flat moved on. Again I just spent too much time trying to fish slow with a jig. I should have been speeding up the whole time and fishing faster. I caught 2 more bass for a couple pounds and lost another important bite. Worst thing is Rich was catching me a few ounces at a time. Dropped to 140+ on day 2
Rich and I enjoyed a few beers that night talking about what we need to do to make a move. We knew we had to go big or go home. We talked about how we were fishing and what we needed to change. My key bait was a chrome blue rattle trap and fishing fast. I decided I was going to live or die by that bait. I planned to cover a lot of water. Rich also decided to cover a lot of water also, however he chose a Secret Weapon Spinnerbait and Sebile lipless crank as his weapon. Lets just say he made a wise choice. Told you earlier that Secret Weapon would come back to haunt me.

Day 3:
I headed back to run my spots where I was most productive. I quickly caught a decent keeper on my rattle trap off a main lake point. I moved around to another point and hit another keeper. I noticed bait fish running the points where I caught the fish and decided to key on the baitfish movement. I fished faster then my days back in Indiana on Cataract and Raccoon lake near Greencastle, Indiana. I moved around quite a lot and found some schoolies. I caught 2 fish out the schoolies with the biggest around 3lbs. I caught several more short fish but could not find another keeper. I had 4 fish for nearly 7lbs. I thought I had a chance at top 50 as the weights were coming in low but also thought I was going to put it to Rich. Rich came in on a late flight and I was brimming ear to ear. However as soon as I peaked into his bag, I knew I was had. You can check out his blog. I tell ya I pointed him in the right direction and what credit did I get? I finished 85th and a few pounds out of the money. I was happy I did not give up and kept fighting. I wish I would have figured it out a big faster. I think if I would have fished faster on day 2 it would have been a different story. Live and learn!

Then bet, well lets say I put Rich on a single dock with a big Spot at Hartwell and that 1 bass took a priced lure out of my box. My info on my rattle trap bite for day 3 put it over the time. Without that he would have lost and not taken my second prized lure out of my box. I guess I need to keep my mouth shut. I will let him explain the bet and you tell me if I get enough credit or not. Check out his blog site for more Clarks Hill information.

Pics to follow in another blog

Here is to a good 2007 but a better 2008!
Billy

Well guys and gals it has been a long time since my last blog. I will try to catch up on the Bassmaster Weekend Series at Clarks Hill in Georgia operatored by the American Bass Anglers.

The execution-style slayings of two pizzeria employees in a well-traveled, "safe'' area on White Bridge Road are the latest in a string of fatal shootings involving restaurant and market workers in Davidson County.

While police search for the killers of Bellacino's Pizza & Grinders manager Chris Caris, 33, and employee Joshua Cole, 18, they are assuring residents that the violence is not random and that residents should feel safe in traditionally low-crime areas of town.

"It's a very safe area, and as we have learned the suspected shooter … is a former employee,'' said Metro police spokesman Don Aaron.

Saturday, police announced they were looking for three men in connection with Friday's 10 p.m. slayings, which occurred while four employees and one customer were in the restaurant.

The shooting suspect is Jason S. Bobo, 21, of Memphis, who was terminated from the eatery in May, Aaron said. Police identified Bobo based on witness accounts and surveillance video from the restaurant, Aaron said.

According to witnesses, two men walked into the pizzeria and one of them approached the counter and asked about ordering a pizza before returning to his waiting partner.

As the sole customer walked up to the counter to check on an order, the two men produced handguns and ordered everyone to get on the floor. Then the men ordered Caris to get money from the office, Aaron said.

"The surveillance video clearly shows that these two young men were executed," Aaron said.

"There was absolutely no provocation whatsoever for harming them. At this time in the investigation, we believe that the robbery was the primary motive."

Police could not say with certainty why the other two employees and the customer were unharmed as the killers fled, dropping money along the way.

Mourners visit store

While police look for the three suspects, Dwight Cole, Joshua Cole's grandfather —
or "Big Pa" — tries to stay strong.

"This is a crime committed by the scumbag of this earth against a person who could have contributed to the ball of earth we're on," Cole said, his voice breaking, his eyes welling with tears.

"Joshua was real good at school. He wanted to be that person who's a good employee.''

The grandfather referred to the suspects as "things,'' while acknowledging that it was unkind for him to do that.

The pizzeria was closed Saturday.

A sign asking customers to "please pray'' for the victims was taped to the door. A framed picture of Joshua sat on the pavement near the entrance, surrounded by burning candles and roses.

People, many of them teenagers, visited the restaurant throughout the afternoon to leave more flowers. Some cried while others just stood in silent grief.

Joining the mourners was Susanne Frensley, an art history teacher at Hillsboro High School, where Joshua Cole graduated in May. He took Frensley's Advanced Placement art history class, she said.

"He was a neat kid, a really good kid," said Frensley, her eyes red from crying. "He had a big heart. This is a real wake-up call for Nashville.''

Two roses and a handwritten letter were stuck behind windshield wipers of an SUV parked in a parking lot in front of the store. The note was addressed to Chris Caris.

"We love you and you will always and forever be in our hearts," the letter read.

Neighbor is afraid

Melissa Ousley, the manager of Pier 1 store next door, chatted with those who stopped by the restaurant. She admitted being afraid.

"It's this feeling of being unsafe when we're here at night," she said. "Paranoia right now is a good word. You feel like it could happen anywhere."

I was anxious to see how they performed on the water and wearing them for 8 hours straight.
I had a perfect weekend set up to test these babies out as I had a guide trip scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday of this past weekend and sunshine was predicted for both days.
I was able to fish both days in these exact glasses without having to take them off to re-adjust, rest my eyes or even behind my ears. They were very comfortable and had great polarization. They really cut the glare on the water. I was most impressed with the comfort and fit of the glasses. You can get these great glasses at a good price.

From the website

JKruzwas created to provide quality sunglasses at an affordable price. You shouldn’t have to break the bank to enjoy sunglass technology needed to perform and compete at the highest levels.

After vast research and development, our sunglasses were designed to fulfill the most necessary requirements… lightweight, stylish, and comfortable frames, not to mention durability to take punishment without breaking. Our lenses had to provide 100% UV protection (UV400), be extremely lightweight, durable and impact resistant.

The most important quality of our lenses is optical clarity and polarization… necessary to fully enjoy the outdoors glare free. In addition, our lenses provide distortion-free vision to allow our sunglasses to be worn with any sporting activity, including golf.

We are proud that our sunglasses have helped so many outdoor and sports enthusiasts enjoy the outdoors and perform their very best in competition. People from almost every sport utilize JKruz sunglass technology… boating, kayaking, canoeing, baseball, softball, wake boarding, fishing, hunting, golf, auto racing, beach volleyball… the list goes on. Although our floating frames are great around the water, be sure to check out our higher quality lenses in any of our non-floating frames which provide even more polarization and clarity.

A tale of 2 days

Aug. 18 F-3 Bassmasters had a tournament on Percy Priest East of Nashville, TN. My partner Lawrence Watson and the rest of us launched from Hurricane Creek ramp. I had originally decided to run the up the East and West fork of Stones River past the 840 bridge, but as I was passing Spring Creek something told me to stop and fish the ledges, drops and humps. I am glad I followed my instincts.
We stopped at a ledge just off the main channel and fished it from shallow to deep with jigs, cranks, and about everything else. Not a single nibble for about an hour. I had changed my jig to a small 3/16 watermelon jig that I got from Mike Pewit from wow.midtnmarine.com and had drifted into 4ft of water on top of the ledge. I cast out to 25ft and brought the jig back up the slope and bamm a 17.5" Largemouth ate my jig. That fish would be big fish of the tournament.

Within the next hour I would have my limit of 17.5, 16, 15,15,15 inch bass. Lawrence caught a nice 2lb bass of a un-named colored lizard. We left the hump and ran up spring creek and fished the 840 bridge with no takers. We came back out around 10 a.m. and continued to fish the hump and I was able to upgrade 2 of my bass on the same jig. I ended up in 1st place with 5 bass at 12.17 lbs. We go on length and convert to weight. However these bass were very fat and weighed heavier then the length conversion chart showed.
The floppy hat strikes again!

The 2nd half of the tale of 2 days was quite a bit different. I made several mistakes that lead to my first ZERO in a tournament in the past 3 years. I fished with Mike Pewit of wow.midtnmarine.com in the Flippers Sunday Morning tourn. My 1st instinct was to fish a small area but a friend of mine already said he was fishing that area and I did not want to intrude. So we shot on down to Bledsoe Creek to fish a few drops. We caught sever 13" fish on a jig and lost 2 good fish. Mike lost a nice one on a c-rig and I broke off on a nice fish. We then moved around a lot just looking for a bite. The last hour we fished the area I wanted to go to first. Mike caught a nice fish on a crankbait and lost another keeper. I also lost about a 4 or 5lb bass on a DT-10. I totally made the mistake of turning my rod over and threw slack in the line and away she went. Looking back I made at least 5 mistakes I normally don't make. Live and learn I guess.

I will probably be fishing KY Lake in the up coming weekends getting ready for the TN State Tournament in September.

Billy
